Wellbeing in York Outreach Services
The Wellbeing in York team of professional integrative therapists offer sessions for groups of people from 3 – 30. Some of our practitioners have been active for many years and some are relatively new, but they bring a diverse range of talents, so this “Menu” gives plenty to choose from to suit different needs in different groups / businesses.
Previously, some of our teams have provided this service for a wide variety of local charities, statutory bodies and businesses and we have a very sound protocol, with initial brief information forms and outcomes forms. We have Data Protection and a Privacy Policy in place, and all of our practitioners are registered and insured.
We are offering the following for your teams, groups, co-workers either online or in a live venue. We can bring our outreach services directly to your office.
Self-Care from Kinesiology and Chinese Medicine
June Tranmer offers some of her favourite Self Care tips to share with anyone who wants to help keep themselves well, calm and centred in these difficult times. Some are simple recipes for keeping our “defensive energy” awake, others are touch and massage for helping soothe and calm the mind. There are over 20 useful things on her list, which she shares regularly so that people can pass them on to friends and family too. These can be 1-hour quick sessions, or they can be longer if people want to go into more detail. They form part of the Basic Touch for Health Level One training, which June also offers to those who want to learn how to use kinesiology muscle checking and balancing. This is a 16-hour training over 4 x 4 hours. She also provides seated Chinese massage (TuiNa) as part of the mini massage team.
Moving and Breathing for Wellbeing
Talia Lyon – Devlin offers 4-week beginners Qigong courses (60mins per session) that will teach attendees some basic and powerful Qigong (utilising breath, movement and intention) that they will be able to use as a tool for their own stress relief and relaxation whenever they may need it – a really great short-term investment for long term wellbeing!
Talia also offers 30-minute Makko-Ho sessions – a series of stretches to relax into in order to open up our bodies and let our innate healing energy flow more freely, which in turn also leads to greater wellbeing! She also provides seated shiatsu as part of our mini massage team.
Drumming and Percussion Workshops
Sue Hulbert, a musician with many years’ experiences, and registered with The Musicians Union. She brings her own instruments, and people are also free to bring their own.
Sue can also offer a workshop on How To Make Your Body Work for You – Through the art of breathing, using your own voice and following the correct taste order of foods, using the ancient Ayurvedic system, Sue will show how you can gain more energy with minimal effort. And why you should eat your sweet things first!

Yoga
with Jenny Carpenter – Jenny is a fully qualified and registered yoga teacher who has helped a range of people improve their sense of wellbeing. She is also a qualified life coach and university lecturer. Jenny has seen first-hand how yoga helps people to connect with each other, either in person or through online classes, and creates a sangha or community of positive, shared energies. Being part of a mutual sangha is extremely beneficial for those people in isolation or who find themselves alone. Through sharing their energy and experience of well-being at the end of a class, people feel a sense of warm comfort. As yoga promotes a slowing down and mindfulness of your own self, bringing yourself back to the present moment, it helps people to understand themselves more and generates an overall holistic sense of peace.

Writing for Wellbeing
Sandie Day. Aiming to promote a sense of wellbeing and healing. It is beneficial for all, and practitioners can utilise writing therapy for people from all walks of life.
My focus is on the following at present:
- women in their middle years and beyond, but the groups are inclusive of women of all ages.
- Students who are interested in exploring self-development through creativity.
In practice, a typical writing group may involve some aspects of the following. The theme of the session / group will vary each time, e.g: nature, childhood, culture.
We read a poem or prose extract together, we’ll individually draw out what is meaningful to us, and produce our own writing in response. As we identify (or not) with the issues, themes, or emotional aspects of the piece of writing we will explore their meaning for us and our feelings surrounding it. During the sessions Sandie may offer gentle movement in the form of Tai Chi, and also Flower Essences. She offers these wonderful healing practices to individuals as well as groups.

For many, complementary therapies are a luxury inaccessible due to financial constraints. However, there is evidence to show that access to such therapies can improve mental and physical well-being and raise a person’s self-efficacy in coping with daily stressors. This would certainly give people a greater sense of control over their own health and wellbeing. The pressure on mental health services is evident, and the tools our practitioners can provide would be a useful adjunct to existing interventions.
Financial constraints should not be a barrier to accessing these therapies and providing free access could improve mental and physical wellbeing for the most vulnerable, or those who would not otherwise try them out without extra incentive.
We offer our sessions online or at places of work / meetings, in the Meeting Room at the Innovation Centre, or people can come to our premises with a small group.
